Review of Cupid Strikes at a wedding by Mahasweta Chakraborty

Imagine going to your bff's wedding and meeting your love of life there. The book ‘Cupid Strikes at a wedding’ is a romantic fiction by author, Mahasweta Chakraborty. The narrator of the book, Maya Chatterjee, is an author and psychologist who hails from Kolkata, is an overthinker, filled with self-doubts, and anxiety, and has a habit of zoning out every now and then. Her head is always bombarded with questions like what will be the outcome if this or that happens.

But why is she this way? There is another story behind it. When she was fifteen, she fell in love with one of her male best friend Aditya Jaiswal. That was not exactly love, but there was a deep feeling of admiration and regard. Aditya Jaiswal, the science geek, had gotten instigated by Maya’s other best friend and had left no stone unturned to insult her. That incident had left her devastated. And she vowed:

“I vowed to never fall for the wrong guys…the guys I couldn’t have.”

Now, after nine years, she had to go to her school friend Meera's wedding in Kolkata and meet every person who had witnessed her embarrassment that day.

But little did she know that there would be the entry of another boy and she was going to face a similar situation and her life would be changed after that.

With lots of misunderstandings and twists, the book is surely gonna take you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions.

The writing style has been kept simple so that it can be easily grasped by the readers and they can connect to the story. Nineteen chapters, along with the prologue and epilogue give the in-depth details of the story. The character development of the protagonist, Maya, has been beautifully portrayed by the author.
